Egg Donation

Donor eggs offer the possibility of childbearing to women whose ovaries are absent or who have ovarian failure and do not produce fertilizable eggs. Egg donation is an anonymous program where we will use your donated eggs to help a couple achieve their goal of a successful pregnancy. This is a wonderful way to help a couple fulfill their dreams of becoming parents.

Donor gametes may be obtained anonymously or from a known individual who may be genetically related. Selection of an appropriate donor, screening to ensure safety, psychological support and medical management of the treatment cycles.

By using IVF techniques, eggs are retrieved from a donor and fertilized by the sperm of the recipient’s partner. Usually, 1-2 embryos are placed into the recipient’s uterus, and any remaining embryos are frozen for the recipient’s future use.

DONOR RECIPIENTS

For our patients needing an anonymous donor, The Fertility Center of Oregon has a pool of donors for your selection. Our donor coordinators will work with you to carefully help in the selection of a donor to your specifications. To be accepted into our program, all FCO’s donors are screened on family health history, mental health, genetic background, education, physical characteristics and testing for diseases. Age is a significant factor when we select donors; the quality of the eggs is higher in the 20s than in the 30s. We require our donors to be between 21-30 years of age. Since all of our donors are anonymous, it means the potential egg recipients do not see any pictures of the donors. Images are provided to the donor coordinator for matching physical characteristics only.

Process Overview

First, the recipient will have an Egg Donation IVF consult with the practitioner. After it is decided to move forward with the egg donor, our egg donor coordinator will review with the recipient characteristics they are desiring. The coordinator will pick some profiles of donors that are currently on file for the recipient to select from matching those characteristics.

When the donor is available, the process continues, and we will start monitoring both the recipient and the donor to synchronize their cycles. Both recipient and donor will have screening labs and ultrasounds before the actual procedure. Depending on the recipient’s age, we might also require a treadmill and/or EKG test.

By using IVF techniques, eggs are retrieved from the donor and fertilized by the sperm of the recipient’s partner. 1-2 embryos are placed into the recipient’s uterus. Any remaining embryos are frozen for the recipient’s future use.
